North Eastern Caribbean (St. Thomas to BVI's)

We spent a little time in Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas and ran in to a few other Luperon boaters.  From there we were going to head to Red Hook on the East coast of St. Thomas.  Several of the boaters that were there ahead of us said that it was a little rough due to the constant ferry traffic.  We elected to stop just South of there in Christmas Cove (A small little anchorage on the West side of Great St. James).  From there we just dinghied into Red Hook.  Christmas Cove was a nice little anchorage with plenty of entertainment.  The snorkeling and diving were excellent.  When we got tired of that we watched the 'cattle boats' from the Cruise Ships.  They came by speed boat, sailboat (monohull & catamaran), and dinghy caravan (by far the most entertaining).  Up to 70 or 80 snorkelers  hovering around a small reef just offshore.  There are several other spots 100 yards from shore and just around the South corner, but the no one from the 'cattle boats' ever went there.  From there we went to St. John (Coral Bay).  There is a nice 'hippie' community there, and we took the bus the whole way to the west shore of St. John to explore, but we only stayed a few days.  From there we went to the British Virgin Islands with the first stop Jost Van Dyke and then to Nanny Cay at the island of Tortola.  We went there to get the bottom painted and to fix a slow leak in the Starboard bow.  While we were here we ran into old friends from our summer in Luperon (Dominican Republic).  After a month there it was time to move on to St. Martin which is around 80 miles from the BVI's, so it was an overnight sail to arrive in the morning.
