Puerto Rico

1/06 to 3/06 We stayed in Ponce, on the south coast of Puerto Rico, for quite a while. The boat stayed here while we traveled back to Florida for a few weeks. We also drove from here to visit San Juan, the Cave Park, and El Yunque Rain Forest

La Guancha (harbor-side boardwalk) in Ponce, Puerto Rico    The kids enjoyed the huge tarpon at the dock.... tourists fed them sardines, so they hung around (the tarpon, not the kids!)    They're almost as big as Jillian! Just kidding...

An amazing cave at the Cave Park in Puerto Rico    Look for the tiny people standing below the cavern opening    Huge and incredible!    Marcie wanted to go spelunking after this - in the caves for experienced people only!

The view the whole way to the beach from the entrance to the El Yunque Rain Forest    The first of several waterfalls    Observation Tower in background    From the tower, a great vista stretching from the Rain and Cloud Forests to the ocean!

Arecibo in the back ground...    Ready for a swim???    The girls, lounging by the waterfall!    A much smaller flow of water, but easier to hike over!

We celebrated Jillian's 8th birthday that night in San Juan.    The following day was Jeff's 50th birthday! We spent it relaxing, which was just what the birthday gods ordered!    Old San Juan wouldn't be complete without the horse-drawn carriages

Old San Juan fortress    The fort at the tip of San Juan, the first liine of defense. Now a haven for kite flying. There were dozens of kites flying!    A typical, quaint and scenic street in Old San Juan    History and Ben & Jerry's, side by side...life is good!

1/06 Enjoying La Parguera and Gilligan's Island, on the South coast of Puerto Rico

The quaint and hospitable town of La Parguera!    A view the opposite direction, looking over tiny islands and reefs that lie just outside of the coast    Stilt houses, painted cheerful colors    So, can we jump in yet, or what?

Chicken fights!     The easy way to clean the bottom of the dinghy????     A mangrove canopy at Monkey Island, La Parguera. Monkeys live here, but we didn't see any! Still, a beautiful spot!    The mangroves at Gilligan's Island

A great spot to swim and kayak....popular!    The beach at Gilligan's.... just wide enough to park your fishing boat

12/05 Passage from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico, and the arrival in Boqueron Bay

Rachel on watch just before daybreak, after 20 hours of sailing.    An incredible sunrise as we pass the coast of the D.R.    Dolphins welcome us to Boqueron, and we sure are glad to be here!

The girls couldn't wait to get back in clear water!       Boqueron Jam Session
